NCDD-bijeenkomst: Perspectieven op de milieu-impact van het digitaal systeem

Op 29 september van 13:00 tot 17:30 uur nodigen wij u van harte uit voor de bijeenkomst ‘Perspectieven op de milieu-impact van het digitaal systeem’ bij ABN AMRO in Amsterdam. ABN AMRO fungeert als een vooraanstaand voorbeeld van een duurzaamheidsstrategie voor haar IT-omgeving. Dit evenement wordt georganiseerd door ECP in samenwerking met het ministerie van Economische Zaken & Klimaat en de Nationale Coalitie Duurzame Digitalisering.

Thema’s bijeenkomst

Digitalisering heeft vanuit verduurzamingsperspectief twee gezichten. Enerzijds leidt de inzet van digitale technieken tot emissie van broeikasgassen. Door de snelle groei van de digitale sector neemt de bijdrage aan emissies vanuit deze sector in de toekomst mogelijk toe. Anderzijds kan digitalisering juist bijdragen aan emissiereductie. Digitalisering biedt diverse mogelijkheden voor (onder andere) efficiënter gebruik van energie, minder grondstoffengebruik in productieketens, efficiënter energieverbruik van apparatuur en gebouwen, beter management van de levenscyclus van een product én betere monitoring van de staat van de natuur.

Programma

Tijdens de bijeenkomst zijn er plenaire openingssessies waarin sprekers vanuit verschillende achtergronden inzichten met u delen. We bespreken onder andere de resultaten die voortvloeien uit het onderzoek van de onderzoeksbureau’s SEO en Dialogic in opdracht van het ministerie van Economische Zaken & Klimaat, evenals de huidige stand van zaken met betrekking tot de Nationale Coalitie Duurzame Digitalisering. Ook zijn er break-out sessies gepland waarin specifieke onderwerpen zoals de ontwikkelingen van de cloud en sustainability, RePlanIT en de digitale duurzaamheidsstrategie van ABNAMRO aan bod komen. Daarnaast willen we graag de dialoog met u aangaan. We zijn benieuwd naar uw visie op verduurzaming en welke kennis en blinde vlekken er zijn vanuit de werkvloer. We streven ernaar om een inspirerende en interactieve bijeenkomst te organiseren waarin kennisdeling en dialoog centraal staan.

‘Perspectives on the environmental impact of the digital system’

On 29 September from 1 to 5.30 PM we cordially invite you to the meeting ‘Perspectives on the environmental impact of the digital system’ at ABN AMRO in Amsterdam. ABN AMRO serves as a leading example of a sustainability strategy for its IT environment. This event is organized by ECP in collaboration with the Ministry of Economic Affairs & Climate and the National Coalition for Sustainable Digitisation.

Theme meeting

Digital infrastructures handle huge amounts of data, but increasing data consumption due to high bandwidths, low-cost data plans, cloud migrations, and the growing popularity of streaming services brings challenges. Although the energy efficiency of computer hardware and the user-friendliness of software have improved, this does not seem to be enough to keep up with the growing demand. This report explains very nicely which buttons you can easily turn to make a positive impact.

With the Netherlands as a central European data hub, concentrated in a relatively small geographical area, the growing energy demand of ICT plays an important role here. Ever-expanding data centers are becoming increasingly difficult to fit into our energy and spatial system. The research carried out by the LEAP coalition illustrates four scenarios that can inspire us and give us direction in this complex matter.

Program

During the meeting there will be plenary opening sessions in which speakers from different backgrounds share insights. Among other things, we discuss the research results from the research agency SEO, commissioned by the Ministry of Economic Affairs & Climate, as well as the current state of affairs with regard to the National Coalition for Sustainable Digitisation. Break-out sessions are also planned in which specific topics such as the developments of the cloud and sustainability, RePlanIT and the IT procurement process are discussed. In addition, we would like to enter into a dialogue with you. We are curious about your vision on sustainability and what knowledge and blind spots there are from the workplace. The final programme will be determined in the coming weeks and we will share it with you. We strive to organize an inspiring and interactive meeting in which knowledge sharing and dialogue are central.
