Nederland heeft een goede positie als digitaal knooppunt, dankzij onder andere de aanlanding van meerdere onderzeese datakabels die ons met het Verenigd Koninkrijk, Denemarken en de Verenigde Staten verbinden. De digitale hub is voor veel bedrijven belangrijk en (intercontinentale) zeekabels zorgen voor vitale communicatienetwerken voor het heden en de toekomst. Diverse organisaties en marktpartijen in de keten van datatransport ervaren groot belang bij onderzeese datakabelverbindingen, voor het behoud en groei van deze digitale knooppuntfunctie van Nederland.
Nederlands belang bij onderzeese datakabels
Vernieuwing is noodzakelijk om de digitale infrastructuur van wereldklasse te behouden, de positie als digitaal knooppunt te borgen en bij te dragen aan de strategische autonomie. De sector ziet wel de noodzaak tot het realiseren van nieuwe zeekabel-verbindingen, maar heeft weinig invloed en middelen tot het mogelijk maken hiervan, bijvoorbeeld door harmonisering rondom regelgeving. Vanuit dit besef hebben bedrijfsleven, kennisinstellingen en overheid zich verenigd in de Zeekabel Coalitie.
De Zeekabel Coalitie
De Zeekabel Coalitie is de plek om gezamenlijk te werken aan een verbeterde positie van Nederland als het gaat om aanlandingen van glasvezel zeekabels. De Coalitie zet zich in voor het benadrukken en uitdragen van het economische en strategische belang van onderzeese kabelverbindingen en verkent actief mogelijkheden om aan te haken op geplande zeekabeltracés, zowel binnen Europa als intercontinentaal. Verder houdt de Coalitie zich bezig met het stroomlijnen en optimaliseren van de (vergunning)processen rondom kabelaanlanding in Nederland en is zij een gewaardeerd deelnemer in de samenwerking met internationale consortia.
Doelstelling van de Zeekabel Coalitie is het stimuleren van zeekabelaanlanding in Nederland, ten behoeve van het behouden en versterken van de (relatieve) positie van Nederland als één van de grootste digitale hubs in de wereld. ECP vervult een coördinatierol in deze coalitie.

Rol ECP
ECP faciliteert de samenwerking tussen de coalitiepartijen vanuit een projectsecretaris- en coördinatierol en levert daarbij projectondersteuning, communicatie- en coördinerende werkzaamheden.

The Netherlands holds a strong position as a digital hub, thanks in part to the landing of multiple undersea data cables connecting us to the United Kingdom, Denmark, and the United States. The digital hub is crucial for many businesses, and (intercontinental) submarine cables provide vital communication networks for the present and the future. Various organizations and market parties in the data-transport chain recognize the significant importance of undersea data cable connections for maintaining and growing the Netherlands’ role as a digital hub.
Dutch Interest in Submarine Data Cables
Renewal is necessary to maintain the Netherlands’ world-class digital infrastructure, secure the position as a digital hub, and contribute to strategic autonomy. The sector acknowledges the need for establishing new submarine cable connections but has limited resources and influence in this regard, for instance on harmonization of regulations. Recognizing this, businesses, research institutions, and the government have come together in the Dutch Subsea Cable Coalition.
The Dutch Subsea Cable Coalition
The Dutch Subsea Cable Coalition is the place in the Netherlands where collaborative efforts are made to work on an improved position when it comes to landings of fiber optic sea cables. The Coalition is committed to emphasizing and promoting the economic and strategic importance of submarine cable connections and actively explores opportunities to connect to planned submarine cable routes, both within Europe and intercontinental. The Coalition also investigates ways of streamlining and optimizing the (permit)processes surrounding cable landings in the Netherlands and is a valued participant in collaborations with international Consortia.
The objective of the Dutch Subsea Cable Coalition is to stimulate submarine cable landings in the Netherlands, in order to maintain and strengthen the (relative) position of the Netherlands as one of the largest digital (internet) hubs in the world. ECP fulfills a coordinating role in this coalition.
